Where The Ribbon Ends, we create bespoke wedding cakes across North Yorkshire. Based at Jervaulx Abbey in the Yorkshire Dales, our cakes are designed to feel modern, stylish and completely personal — from sleek contemporary finishes to romantic florals and hand-crafted decorative details.
Our story
Our roots began at Jervaulx Abbey Tearooms, opened by mum Carol in 1994. Built on homemade baking and warm hospitality, it’s where daughters Gayle and Anna grew up learning the craft, developing flavours, and falling in love with the role cake plays in life’s biggest moments.
In 2021, we closed the tearooms to focus fully on Where The Ribbon Ends, putting all our time and creativity into weddings and special occasions. We’re a family-run business with over 15 years’ experience creating wedding cakes, and we’re proud to have been recognised nationally — winning a national award two years running.

We’re passionate about using local, high-quality ingredients, and we’re proud of our kitchen standards. By maintaining a high level of food management, we’ve achieved a Food Standards Agency Level 5 ‘Excellent’ rating.
Design & craftsmanship
Our journey into bespoke cake design began in 2013, when Gayle (living in York at the time) took evening classes in sugarcraft — and never looked back. In 2014, she returned to the family-run tearooms and Where The Ribbon Ends officially began. Largely self-taught, with years of hands-on experience, Gayle has also undertaken professional training across the country — refining techniques, exploring new trends, and keeping our designs fresh and on-trend.
Younger sister Anna returned to the family tearoom in 2010, developing the baking skills that became the foundation of our flavour-first approach. Her speciality is award-winning edible hand-painting, now one of our signature finishes, loved for its artistry and detail.
Flavour matters
Between us, we’ve developed 100+ flavours across cakes, traybakes and pastries. That knowledge has shaped a wedding cake flavour menu created specifically for weddings — combinations chosen to be delicious, stable and clean-cutting on the day.
We’re always watching flavour trends, refining favourites and introducing new options. Alongside wedding cakes, we also create dessert tables, webshop treats and celebration bakes, all made with the same attention to quality and finish.

Carol created a range of free-from products for the tearooms, and that experience still benefits what we offer today. We take allergens seriously and provide clear, confident guidance, with options available across a range of requirements.
